Today I was quite happy as the course Escola Naval is really close to the marina and it was one easy day in the office. Got to the club, the first surprise, as outside winds were going to blow properly and waves were huge, the Nacras had to be rischeduled inside and the Finn had to go out at sea, f….bloody hell I thought. Why this uselss cats cannot sail in waves, another brutal day for the Finns.

I towed my boys out and once out my angry spirit got happy, it was just incredibly beautiful and all was there for legendary sailing: sun, clean waters as the storm had brought beautiful clean water, winds up to thirty knots and huge three meter waves. My beloved hungarian Zsombor Berecz needed a big day to get back into the game, I went up to him and only told him: I want two bullets today, he smiled and said yes. We went off and he had figured out the course started at the committee and tacked right and off he went, second to windward to brasilian Zarif to win the most important and most beautiful race in his life. “This is the most beautiful day in my sailing life, now I need to recover in the rest day, I am quite destroyed but today was unique”, Szomby told to media after the race.

The sea was powerful, the breeze strong. Planing down huge waves, immense fun to see and more than anything to sail, king Giles Scott was back and struggling, at the end a tenth that keeps him within reach. Second race the wind increased a bit and so did the waves, I was was wet from top to bottom but feeling alive and all one with my athletes, the sea and the wind. Second race went off, Szombi and Vasco did not start too well but still managed a remarcable 7 and a 9. They are within reach of the king, that went onto winning that race, but all sailors all the way down to 15 still are in the game for medals.

Now winds should go lighter and a rest day will allow some to recover the strenght and some to dream too much and loose their mind, as usual who will come out of the rest day perfect will get the reward at the end.

Rio offered today what nobody could promise nor dream of: the most beautiful racing day in the last four years, simply magic. All is not really properly organized ashore, but the winds have been so fantastic that we can simply smile and rest as the crucial days are about to come.
