She was happy and relaxed during the rest day. Tamara Echegoyen asked me how Finn racing went on Niteroi, when I told her she explained why left paid on that course. Her explanation was cristal and clear, as she had figured out the effect of the island on the wind depending on the direction. Her voice stable expressed determinatio and the perfect mental state you need to race. She and Berta Betanzos are top quality, she won gold match racing and we tipped them high for this Games.

Then racing came and wow… difficult to do much better, started the day with a fourth to then win both races and so with 4-1-1 she is now leading overall the 49er FX fleet. She says the first thing she wants to do afer this Games is to eat, salad and very little more have been the mantra for her and Berta in the last two years. One word summaries their performance today: impeccable.

Lasers were waiting for the medal race, but no wind came, when Radials finally raced a huge storm came through and racing got cancelled, and so tomorrow medal races are piling up, and mental pressure as well. As usual, medal winners in general have lived like monks, forgetting social networks and phones, like in one ancient monastery. It is tough, really tough to do but one fundamental part of olympic success. So let’s hope we get some good winds and great racing tomorrow. My Finns so far with no proper broadcast as TV out at sea struggles here, what a pity as racing out was sensational and still we had unbelievable images, but videos could have helped even more to promote our beloved sport.
