As the Finn had a day off I had the chance to meet old friends and exchange ideas and comment on the Rio Games. All in all I like the less structured and more relaxed approach that we have here in Rio, surely Brasil is not Catalunya of the 92 Games nor Savannah of the 1996 Games, surely not Sydney nor Athens, nor London 2012. Brasil is brasil and a lot of quality standars here are different, though the giant perfection of the past games and the immense costs connected are not necessarily only a plus, and as the world is changing so the olympics have to adapt and become less of a giant. A lot of lessons will be taken home from this Games.

So far sailing here has been excellent, at least for the Finn that I am following and we could not have had better racing, apart from some issues with the Laser marks on day two were same sailors in huge waves lots ground due to similarity in mark colors. I like Rio, I have never seen a mosquito and have not got sick from the waters so far and so none of my boys.

Today the first medals were awarded as van Rijsselbergher and Dempsey are already sure gold and silver prior to the medal race, and here we are really loosing the meaning of the medal race, while female RS:X have the top seven with a real chance of medalling and nobody knows who will win, that will be the most disputed set of medals in recent history as Alabau is back in the game, Tartaglini is struggling but just one point behind the russian girl leading at present.

For brasilians today was a real emotional day as Robert Scheidt is now in silver medal position, only three points behind Tonci Stipanovic, Robert is shoving how good he is under pressure, he came back from the sea, his eyes on fire his mind just focused on the end result, what a learning for everybody to see how a ultra champion sails, mooves, thinks and executes what he so strongly has been training for. If he makes it it will be one of the stories of the Games, personally I have a lot of respect for him and rate him as one of the greatest.

Also Tonci is a great character, he comes from Split, a wonderful city on the croatian coast where sailing passion is strong, a city that has always lived from the sea and in symbiosis with the sea. Australian Burton is third and down to ten in reality all have still a chance, one remarcable feature of this Games is that so far apart from the RS:X man all other classes see a real evening up of performances, and the game is tighter than ever.

Soon the rytus of the medal cerimonies will seal this games, we will selectively remember only the magic moments we experienced here, and slowly slowly the dream of the next olympics will make it through. Some will go again, some will not, those who will go again will kind of stop the watch ticking in their lives and time will not mean anyhthing else tha the distance to the next regatta. Winds and the sea are our playing field, mastering them the challenge, managing our emotions and flowing with the wind the ultimate goal. Go Vassilij Zbogar, it is five years you have been training every day for it, fly Zsombor Berecz you really are a magic talent, give it all Facundo Olezza why not when the winds go light win another race. Risurge Alejandro Foglia, you have not showed so far what you are worth.
