From Cagliari to Cagliari with the solo no-stop round the world circumnavigation in a Class 40 in the middle. This is the project of passionate sardinian sailor Gaetano Mura, announced yesterday at the Genoa Boat Show. The italian sailor and his Class 40 will leave from Cagliari on October 12 with the goal to get a new nautical record: the round the world solo, no stop and without assistance circumnavigation, on a Class 40, aiming to break the record with this class, established in 137 days by Chinese navigator Guo Chuan.
A traditional route but a first for him: from Cagliari to Cagliari leaving the Great Capes, Good Hope, Leeuwin and Cape Horn to port, passing the equator twice, sailing a long time in the Roaring Forties to finally get home in the warm Mediterranean. A project that wants to promote Sardinia, a real paradise for sea lovers, as tourist destination wordwide.
Gaetano Mura, 45 years old, born in Cala Gonone, a small but beauty village in Orosei Gulf, Sardinian East Coast. Sailing career top result: Transat Jacques Vabre 2013, tenth place in the Class 40 with Bet 1128.
